Dermal fillers, or simply fillers, are FDA approved gel-like implants. Fillers are primarily used in the face to add volume, soften, or smooth folds and wrinkles, as well as balance and contour facial features. There are a variety of different dermal fillers on the market. At Aesthetics Confidential, we primarily use hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers from the Juvéderm® and Restylane® portfolio. Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring polysaccharide (sugar) that we naturally produce and is found throughout our body.

Dermal fillers are injected with a very small needle or cannula into specific planes within the dermal layers of the skin, often resulting in a smoother skin surface and a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance.

Juvéderm® and Restylane® products are the first Hyaluronic Acid (HA) dermal fillers to be introduced into the world market. Both brands have been on the market for cosmetic use for over 20 years and have a diverse portfolio to address many areas of concerns on the face.

When you book a consultation, your healthcare provider will review your medical history and perform a comprehensive facial examination. During that time, you and your healthcare provider will discuss which options would best address your areas of concern to achieve the best results.

Dermal filler treatments are commonly performed on many areas of the face. Fillers can enhance or improve the areas of the face below.

• Cheeks: Restore volume to flattened or sunken cheeks.

• Under-eye (tear trough): Improve dark circles by reducing under-eye hollows.

• Nasolabial folds (smile line): Smooth smile lines.

The best dermal filler candidates meet the criteria below.

• Must be 18 years of age or older

• Must NOT currently be pregnant or breastfeeding aka nursing

• Have moderate skin elasticity

• Must be in good health

• Must have good skin health habits

• Must follow post procedure instructions

• Have realistic expectations of treatment outcomes

• Nonsmokers

Treatments with dermal fillers are safe overall and with minimal side effects. The most common and normal side effects include a small pin prick sensation at the injection site, swelling, bleeding, and bruising. This list is not meant to be inclusive of all potential side effects associated with dermal fillers. Results can often be seen immediately and appear more natural over time – approximately 2 to 6 weeks after swelling, lumps and bumps, and hardened areas have resolved, and the product has settled into place. There are several variables that influence how long results with dermal fillers last. On average, results may last from 6 months up to 2 years, however, can be shorter or longer in duration in some patients. These variabilities should be discussed with your healthcare provider.
