Kybella® is an FDA approved injectable medication and is the synthetic form of deoxycholic acid (DCA). Deoxycholic acid is a natural bile acid produced in our body by the liver and secreted into the digestive system to aid in the breakdown of fat.

Kybella® requires multiple injections with a small needle into the subcutaneous or superficial fat under the skin. Kybella® permanently destroys subcutaneous fat when injected, often resulting in reducing the appearance of moderate to severe fullness or heaviness associated with a “double chin,” improving your profile and jawline for a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

Kybella® is the only FDA approved injectable medication to permanently destroy fat associated with a “double chin” on the market. Kybella® was FDA approved in 2015 after a decade of use in clinical trials.

The best Kybella® candidates meet the criteria below.

• Must be 18 years of age or older

• Must NOT currently be pregnant or breastfeeding aka nursing

• Have moderate skin elasticity

• Have moderate to severe “double chin”

• Must be in good health

• Have good skin health habits

• Must follow post treatment instructions

• Must NOT have a Dysphagia or difficulty swallowing

• Must NOT have past or future face, chin, or neck surgery

• Must NOT have an active or existing infection

• Have realistic expectations of treatment outcomes

Treatments with Kybella® are safe and with minimal side effects. The most common and normal side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness around the treatment area. This list is not meant to be inclusive of all potential side effects associated with Kybella®. Treatments with Kybella® are minimally invasive and typically have minimal downtime. You will experience some swelling and tenderness for 1-2 weeks after treatment. Swelling can be camouflaged by wearing turtle necks, scarves, or bandanas. Bruising is possible and can be covered up with makeup.

Kybella® permanently destroys subcutaneous fat when injected. Once your desired aesthetic is achieved, additional treatments are not expected. However, it is important to note that Kybella® does not prevent the body from producing new fat cells (adipocytes) with substantial weight gain.
